we are very proud and honered to release this ep by function aka dave sumner from sandwell district. one of technos true underground heroes, function (dave sumner) has been djing and making music for over 15 years. hailing from new york, he was seduced by techno music when jeff mills held a residency (as well as his own first) at the limelight in the early 90s. dave started to produce music and from the mid-90s onwards, put out music on damon wilds synewave and his own infrastructure imprint. together with regis (karl o connor) he worked as portion reform, putting out uncompromising music on downwards and becoming the only non-birmingham producer to release on the label. in 2008 dave moved to berlin, still working with regis, and now silent servant (john mendez), put his focus on the acclaimed sandwell district imprint. obsessed is a supper powerfull floating track for the dancefloor, a typical function production. this ep also contains remixes from substance and scb aka scuba, both peak-time tracks.

when the house music phenomenon was beginning, chicago djs like ron hardy and new yorkers such as frankie knuckles and larry levan would edit records for their own purposes, removing the parts they felt to be superfluous, concentrating instead on extending grooves and hooks, often adding their own basic synth lines and toughening up the percussion with what have now become classic synthesizers and drum machines. warehouse classics vol.1 holds 4 killer tracks going from obscure disco to new wave, first popularised at the music box and rarely heard anywhere else. sir leon greg (another incarnation of perseus traxx) jams out then reinforces some edits of forgotten classics with a raw & personal analogue treatment for a devastating full effect on the dance floor, that is a far cry from the proliferation of over-produced squeaky-clean software edits. these are basic, raw ideas thrown down quickly and capturing the energy on 1/4 inch tape before moving on to the next set of sounds. musically, its as delightfully funky and uncomplicated as youd expect, a mesh of disco tracks and heavy, effect laden, machine-funk. essential item!!

straight from germany, this talented producer delivered some of the best deep house music around. entitled >the first floor ep<, it starts with >show me< which is one of those eminently soulful house tracks with a sparse approach to production, all the elements sounding so crisp and distinct in the mix but judged perfectly. whilst >rooted< is a louche head nodder supreme. on the flip side, with >got that< hes creating an all-enveloping atmosphere with its oven-warm pads and rich analogue bass, punctuated with jazzy chords and vocal murmurings. >defense< showcases hes excellent knack for crafting moodymann style textures with the depth to boot, combining a solid rhythmic snap with drawn out vocal landscapes and detroit-referencing melodies. and to last,>trouble< is all brisk, upright percussive layers splayed over swooping disco filtration. nicks approaching house from various angles and tempos and naturally theres plenty of deft usage of samples, such an ep just demonstrate how on top of their game skylax / wax classic is right now - big tip!

36 hours in. the lights are flickering and the sweat is pouring out of you like the thoughts that you re trying to write down, to get down the words, to put down the message, to translate all the ideas that keep appearing in your head. ideas like uninvited guests that keep showing up and refusing to leave. somewhere though, there s a truth in there. you know it because you saw it. you know it because you felt it. because when you knew that even though there were ten million reasons why you should go to bed now, why you should go to bed straight away. that you should put these silly things down and stop trying to create and just get some sleep already. that you should stop trying to wrestle the ideas in your subconscious down to the ground so you can actually capture and express them to others. but you persist.

i am a pianist, composer, improviser, performing artist and a multitasking musician in life, currently living and working in reykjavik. i was born 1978 in seydisfjördur, iceland and have been playing the piano and keyboards since age of 9. my main focus and interest is in improvisation, composition and performance of music. how improvisation and composition can meet effortlessly as a creation of musical ideas and sounds. i am also thoughtful of the general passion & drive behind creation of things, in what way they are presented and passed on to people, in music, arts and life in general. since childhood i ve collaborated with a whole spectrum of artist, from obscure troubadours in the countryside to stadium bands, covering all fields og music, both in iceland and abroad. i have also composed and arranged a great deal of music for theater, film, art installations, performances and videos of all kinds. released my first album rask in 2002, and now i am currently composing and working on a series of records with solo piano music for radio bongo with improvised piano works i (broadcast01) as the first radio bongo release.

mark and stefan have been making noises for a long, long time. born in an storm way, way back, they have forgotten more than most people know about the art of making people move their bodies in strange ways - graduating from the psychonautic academy of vibrational arts with 2 lfos, a couple of vcfs and 3 vcos… when theyre not working in the studio on their new psychedelic project pulp disco & the outcasts, theyre getting up to all sorts of bad behavior in ibiza, france and their home in london and manchester. warehouse parties, dirty dive bars and seedy strip joints have all been seduced by their magic over the years, and this is where the duo feel most at home. the wrong side of the horizon is where they were born…and dark dub-discos are now their only refuge. so when the moon is full, hitch a ride with them into deep space...

marbert rocel spend most of their time looking out of the window and smoking. then they make music, someone draws for a while, and they soon go back to looking out of the window and making music. marbert rocel are twinkle-toed, and yet hardly tangible when you try to grasp them. they combine dance music with songs, songs with cookies and, in turn, cookies with dance music.therefore, marbert rocel spent a lot of time touring – playing gigs in germany, holland, italy, poland, indoors, outdoors, on the roof, in the cellar, in small groups, in front of many people, and in front of very many people.<it greatly influenced our music. this is the reason as to why we now make ballads at 130 bpm.< at a concert on enceladus in 2010, marbert rocel met martin kohlstedt. he seemed to fit perfectly to the band and behind the rhodes, thanks to his constant eight- armness and his tiger stripes.

after broom has remixed tracks by gennaro le fosse and johannes heil for cocoon recordings, it was now unquestionably time for a musical exclamation mark under his own name. and so, the rave mix of sq18 is setting a hedonistic imperative for the club year 2012 right from the beginning, quite naturally interspersing a mentasm rave signal after about three minutes within its driving detroit dub techno, but never conveys the sense of nostalgic mustiness

we release here on vinyl the top tunes from microtrauma for all the fans who were bugging us and were disappointed that they could not get the tracks on record. so now here find a good selection of the strongest tunes by microtrauma based on the feedback of the fans and the feedback in the clubs. the tracks come from the first three releases now for the first time on vinyl. for what is missing we apologize but promise to have the next microtrauma release on vinyl!

this must be one of the heaviest remix packages in a long time. a year after the release of tom tragos irisalbum we now have versions from no less than kink, linkwood and larry heard. all three hit the deep spots...err... tip!

gogo music is ten years old, and now is celebrating its 50th release. this time it is a great collaboration between ralf gum and robert owens. ralf gums mix is a deep track that start with percussive groove. deep, fat bassline under elettro synths perfect for dancefloor. the remix is under dj spinnas knowledge with same ingredients but more deep and hypnotic. useless to comment robert owens voice. always useful instrumental and beat versions. a package to have ... for sure in top 10.

the sccucci manucci label has done a fine job of handpicking artists on the rise for their releases to date, collaring the likes of casino times, francis inferno orchestra and toomydisco as well as the odd established name like jacques renault. the labels fourth release forza quattro is still grounded in the disco/house sensibility that has served them so well, though the presence of waze & oddysey demonstrates the sccucci a & r team are willing to deviate. the elusive us pair are in the midst of a hot patch right now with releases already burning on body work and southern fried and plenty more due over the coming months, so their presence here is a real coup. i cant hear you sounds vaguely like a extra bouncy cover of the classic rip groove and definitely ranks alongside their output to date. alongside this the white vinyl ep has tempo traversing contributions from fil lavin, sellouts and deadly sins, with the latters slow and chuggy -dont you know- a particular highlight
